Doctor offers choice of therapies
The opposing worlds of traditional medicine and alternative therapies will combine at Timaru's newest GP clinic.
Tracy Chandler has opened a holistic GP wellness centre where she will treat patients with traditional medicine as well as offering homeopathy and acupuncture, alongside cosmetic medicine and day spa services.
The idea was born out of a desire to provide a more holistic service that focused on the patients' overall wellbeing.
"As a GP I have felt restricted and felt I could do more for a patient by looking at the whole picture.
"While traditional medicine is certainly backed up by science and would be my first approach, I have seen people get really good results from alternative therapies such as homeopathy and acupuncture, so they will be available to the patient as well," Dr Chandler said.
An appointment will cost about twice the amount of a regular GP consultation and patient numbers will be limited.
Dr Chandler will provide her own after-hours care.
Patients will have a half-hour initial consultation.
Dr Chandler said this would enable her to get a full medical history and ensure "that only patients who are really committed to improving their overall wellbeing are the ones that I take on".
Routine appointments would be 15 minutes.
